With a piece of fresh-looking upholstered furniture, you’ll surely impress your guests. However, even if you take good care of your upholstered furniture, accidents can still happen. A spill here, a stain there—you’re bound to have some wear and tear after years of use. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying your favorite pieces!

Having your upholstered furniture cleaned regularly can keep them looking great and extend its lifespan. You can do the cleaning by yourself. You just have to follow some do’s and don’ts to make avoid further damage. However, if you want to make sure everything to turn out alright, you can always find a reliable cleaning company to do it for you would be ideal.

The cost of upholstery cleaning can be quite expensive for some. So, If you’re one of the homeowners who prefer to perform general cleaning and maintenance on your own, here are some tips for you to scrub away stains and dirt on your upholstered furniture.

Do’s: Upholstered Cleaning

Vacuum often

When it comes to cleaning velvet upholstered furniture, our number one cleaning tip from upholstery cleaning services is to vacuum it regularly. If you have pets or kids around, make sure to vacuum once or twice a week. Vacuuming your furniture regularly will keep getting crumbs, dirt, or debris from settling down into the fibers.

Take action quickly

One of the best house cleaning tips that you could do is to take action quickly. The best way to clean your upholstery is to take prompt action to stain to avoid it from seeping deeper or padding underneath the fabric. When stains are left untreated, they can be harder to remove and become permanent.  Blotting it with a clean towel is the first thing you could do as soon as you notice a stain.

Read the instructions

Before executing any steam cleaning upholstered furniture or dry cleaning upholstered furniture, you should make sure to read the manufacturer’s instructions on your upholstery. The instructions can include the type of cleaning solutions or chemicals that can be used to clean stains on the specific fabric.

Different types of fabric require unique stain removers, methods, drying times, and cautions for use. Usually, S stands for solvent cleaners, W stands for water-based cleaners,  X stands for neither water nor solvent-based cleaners, and WS stands for both water and solvent-based cleaners, It is critical to follow these instructions to lessen any damage. Just like when you’re doing marble countertop cleaning, you have to make sure that you read instructions well.

Always perform a spot test

Unfortunately, some upholstery doesn’t come with the manufacturer’s instructions. What you can do is perform a spot test. To do so, take a small amount of the cleaning solution and apply it to the inconspicuous area of the fabric. If you notice any discoloration or damage, it is advisable to look for alternative solutions.

Performing a spot test can help you avoid further damage to the upholstery and can help you determine the right cleaner for your furniture.

Dont’s:  Upholstered Cleaning

Don’t Use Heat

One of the important tips when cleaning upholstered furniture is to not use heat or boiling cleaning solutions. Hot water can promote the chemical alteration of a stain, making it easier to bond with the fabric. Typically, stains that are made from food, blood, or any proteins are susceptible to heat.

Likewise, vinegar and other acids should also be avoided as they can act as a heating agent. If there’s a need to use hot water, ensure that it is cool or warm.

Don’t use  Bleach

Using bleach or bleach product to clean the surface of your furniture is a strict No-No when performing upholstered furniture cleaning. Bleach can worsen the stain and make the affected area larger. It can also affect the color of your furniture which can deteriorate the fibers. Using bleach when deep cleaning upholstered furniture can end in buying a new piece or reupholstering the entire piece of furniture. If you’re afraid of bleach, you can also talk with disinfection services to disinfect your upholstery.

Don’t rub or scrub

Although you may be tempted to scrub or rub the stains on your upholstery, you should never do it. Vigorous scrubbing or rubbing can further result in the wearing away of the material as it pushes the stain further into the upholstery fibers. This is especially true when cleaning cotton upholstered furniture. Instead of scrubbing, scrape the stain with a spoon and then blot it with a clean towel. Now, if you’re scared of damaging your upholstery, you can always go for the expert ones. Make sure that you are aware of the professional upholstery cleaning cost first.

Here are some cleaning tips for removing stains on different upholstery fabrics:

  • Fabric upholstery- Combine 1 tablespoon of dish soap, ¼ cup vinegar, and ¾ cup water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the soiled area and bluff it with a soft cloth to lift the stain. Allow it to sit for a few seconds and use another cloth with clean water to remove the soap. Let it dry with a towel.
  • Synthetic upholstery- Combine ½ tablespoon of liquid dish soap, ½ cup of vinegar, and 1 cup of warm water in a spray bottle. Mist the grime and scrub with a soft cloth until the stain is completely removed.
  • Leather upholstery- Mix ¼ cup vinegar with ½ cup olive oil in a spray bottle. Spray the cleaner on the surface and blot it with a soft cloth.

Don’t start in the Center

Your instinct might tell you to blot the stain in the very center. However, this is not the best move because the stain is mostly concentrated in the center. Attacking the stain right there can only make it worse. So, the best way to remove a stain is to wipe or blot it from the outer edges of your stain and work toward the center.

The Ultimate Don’t and Do

The essential tip for upholstery cleaning is this: DON’T start an upholstery cleaning project when you’re unsure if you can handle it, instead DO hire professionals to ensure that your furniture is properly cleaned and handled.

The average life of upholstered furniture is around five to seven years. But you can extend that by cleaning it regularly. We’re also going to share tips on how to maintain them after cleaning.

The key to extending the life of your furniture at home or in the office is getting a professional upholstery cleaning service. It maximizes your investment, gives your home or office a fresh new look, and keeps your environment healthy and clean.

However, you may have to pay a decent amount in terms of professional upholstery cleaning cost. Therefore, it is your responsibility to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of your furniture after the professional hands it over to you. Upholstery cleaning and keeping them in good condition is quite a challenging task, to help you around here are some tips for you:

Simple Maintenance Tips after Professional Upholstery Cleaning

Clean upholstery regularly

Dust and unwanted dirt often settle and build up almost everything in your home, including your upholstery. Giving it some basic cleaning will prevent these unwanted materials from building up.

If you cannot clean your furniture regularly, then make sure to clean it every alternate day or at least once a week. If you could afford the cost of maid services, then you could surely hire one to make sure that your home is thoroughly clean. Vacuuming once a week is one of the ways in cleaning upholstery. This helps remove things that are hidden inside your upholstery, such as bacteria, allergens, germs, and dust.

Plumped up your cushions frequently

After each use, ensure to plump your cushions. Do it at the end of each day to keep them in good shape. This is highly recommended for cushions filled with feathers and/or fibers. Change the cushion from one section of the sofa to another, this will help secure even usage. Also, rotate your cushions because some seats are used more than others.

Clean Stains Immediately

This is, by far, one of the most effective house cleaning tips. Accidents around the house are inevitable, it could happen on your favorite couch. Make sure to clean any spills or stains immediately- the longer it sits, the higher risk of the stain becoming permanent. There are plenty of DIY hacks you can find to remove stains from your upholstery.

Always test your product and read the manufacturer’s instructions before applying them directly to your upholstery. You can also stick to the specialized cleaning products designed to use for your upholstery fabric.

Ensure proper ventilation

Upholstery cleaning doesn’t only require soap and water, but also includes proper ventilation. Good air circulation can help control odors and other air pollutants, as they can be easily absorbed by your furniture. This will also help get rid of moisture, which is one cause of damage to its finish and the wood.

Ensuring proper ventilation can be as simple as opening the windows, pointing a fan to an open window, and installing exhaust fans. You also need to schedule monthly or quarterly cleaning on your HVAC system. That helps maintain a clean air filter and no molds growing on your ductworks. If you think you have a severe case of mold infestation, you can always hire a professional mold damage restoration service

Avoid direct sunlight and other elements

Position your furniture away from exposure to direct sunlight for a long period of time. This includes keeping it away from open windows, this way it is protected from other elements such as rainwater spray, fumes, smoke, and airborne pollutants. These elements can make the material fade and fray over time.

You can have blinds on your windows, or have them tinted to block some sunlight. UV rays can speed up the aging of your upholstered furniture.

Cover your furniture

One of the parts of your upholstery that get dirty faster is your armrest and slip. These are considered high-use areas, thus, they can absorb elements like dirt, oil, and dead skin cells very quickly. Getting a beautiful sofa cover or slipcover serves as decoration and protection.

You can make use of a tablecloth, sheet, or blanket and convert it to become a cover or buy a new piece of fabric. Slipcovers are essential as they absorb unwanted elements in your sofa, cushions, and armrests.

Apply Scotchgard on your upholstery

A useful way to prevent spills or oil from penetrating into the fibers, which will result in stains, is to use a protector. Basically, it is an invisible cover or plastic layer which safeguards the furniture and keeps it clean, and in supreme condition.

One of the plasticizing agents that are recommended by most upholstery cleaning companies is Scotchgard. It is a very effective and fabric-friendly solution for your upholstery.

  • Recliner or armchair = $30 to $40
  • Love Seat = $40 to $50

Furniture that does not get regular upholstery cleaning will have to be thrown away much too soon in its lifecycle. Furniture is bulky and takes up a lot of space in a landfill after you are done with it, so it is important to keep it in good shape for as long as you can.

Upholstery cleaning will make your furniture look so good that you will forget how old it is. It will get rid of all kinds of stains and odors so that you can always feel good using your furniture and looking at it to decorate your home.

Will Upholstery Cleaners Come to My Home?

Many upholstery cleaners make house calls because they understand that it is not easy to lug a giant couch in to be cleaned. They have mobile equipment that can be used in your home and do a wonderful job of getting your upholstery clean.

For smaller items, like a chair, the upholstery cleaner near you might even offer a discount if you bring the item into their shop. They will be saving time and resources by not having to travel to you, so you should get a discount in this case.

Professional upholstery cleaners are competent in performing their duties in your house in a safe and efficient manner. They will know exactly how to deal with your furniture and will be courteous to your home so that nothing is damaged while they are working.

What Is Included With Upholstery Cleaning

The typical upholstery cleaning service starts with an inspection of the furniture to see the best methods for cleaning. Cleaners need to use the right techniques based on the condition of your furniture.

The first part of cleaning is applying a heated cleaning solution to the upholstery that starts to loosen up any dirt or debris that is stuck in there. A professional cleaner uses special methods that don’t get the furniture too wet so it has an easy time drying.

Then the upholstery gets a good rinsing down with the upholstery cleaning want that sucks up moisture at the same time it is applied. This gets all of the loosened up dirt to come out so that the upholstery is left clean and beautiful.

Some companies can charge extra for difficult stains, the fee should be in the $20 range. But for easy to remove stains the removal should be included with the normal upholstery cleaning fee.

Steam Cleaning Couch Cost

Having a steam cleaning for a couches upholstery is one of the preferred methods offered by many upholstery cleaning services. This method involves using a special machine that lifts dirt out of a couches fibers with a steam and vacuum wand.

You may think of renting a steam cleaning machine and do the job yourself. This can cost $40 to $60 for a full day rental which includes the shampoo and any materials you need.

Upholstered furniture can be a major investment for a homeowner, but few people consider upholstery cleaning as part of the investment. Cleaning upholstery will make your furniture look better and last longer, so that you will not need to make more of those big investments before it is time.

Upholstery cleaning is no easy task and just how to go about it can stump a lot of normal folks. Without a good cleaning, upholstered furniture can start to look bad, smell bad and eventually need to be thrown away.

If you are needing to clean your upholstery, but you are not sure where to start, this article will tell you about the reason you should hire a professional upholstery cleaning company to do the job. The main reasons you need to hire professional upholstery cleaning services is that they have all the right tools, they have the experience and they will do a much better job than you can for a lower price than you expect.

The Best Tools For The Job

Upholstery cleaning is a very specialised job that is best done with the right tools. The best upholstery cleaner for typical upholstery is a steam cleaner. This is a very special tool that uses steam to get down deep into the fibers of upholstery without getting the material too wet.

Steam cleaning lifts up the most stubborn of dirt and debris, while also killing any bacteria or mold that might be living in the fabric. It takes an experienced touch to use a steam cleaner on upholstery and you want to have a professional do this job.

The equipment to do a steam cleaning is bulky and expensive, not something that you want to keep around the house, so the best way to employ this cleaning machine is to hire a professional who is trained to use it and will do a great job.

If your upholstery can not handle steam cleaning, a professional will know exactly which upholstery cleaners they can use to get your upholstery cleaned the right way. Many homeowners don’t know the right way to clean their upholstery and end up ruining it while trying to clean it. If you hire a professional, they will know exactly what your upholstery needs and they will clean it the right way.

Your Furniture Will Last Longer

If you start treating your upholstery correctly from the moment you purchase it, it can last for years longer than it would if you did not have it professionally cleaned. At least once per year you should be having a professional come to do upholstery cleaning to make sure that your furniture will last as long as possible.

The longer that dirt, stains and debris sits on upholstery, the worse damage it does and the more difficult it will be to clean. Dirt will work its way down into upholstered furniture, to a point where it will be impossible to clean it out. The dirt rubbing on the upholstery fibers can be abrasive and tear the fibers, which will make the upholstery look bad and eventually need to be replaced.

Regular upholstery cleaning by professionals will add years of life to your furniture. A good upholstery cleaning will also make the furniture look and feel like new. This way you won’t feel the need to buy new furniture and you will spend less money buying new things.

It is also an environmentally friendly approach to owning furniture. Rather than letting your furniture go bad and ending up in a landfill, if you maintain it you can use it a lot longer and our garbage heaps won’t end up taking up too much space.

Professional upholstery cleaners will make your furniture last a lot longer and you will enjoy it a lot more the whole time that you own it.

Convenience

Having professional upholstery cleaners come to your home is so much easier than trying to clean it yourself. They have so much experience cleaning upholstery that they will do the job a lot quicker than you can. What might take you a full weekend, could be done in only a few hours by a professional.

They will make cleaning your upholstery hassle free, all that you will have to do is wait for them to finish and then let the upholstery dry off. If you try to clean the upholstery yourself, it could take you a very long time, and there is no guarantee that you will clean it correctly and you may even ruin the upholstery.

Cost Effectiveness

You may be thinking that hiring a professional upholstery cleaner is just too expensive, but really it is more affordable than you think. It is estimated that the average couch costs about $164 to professionally clean. This may seem like a big expense, but you have to consider what you are getting.

After a professional cleaning, your couch will feel almost like new again. Instead of spending over a thousand dollars to buy a new couch, move your old couch out and move the new couch in, you can spend just a fraction of that and do a lot less work to have your couch feeling like new.

Every time you have a professional upholstery cleaning, it will be that much more time that you don’t have to think about making a major purchase, getting rid of a bulky couch and getting the new one moved in. It is incredibly cost effective to maintain your upholstered furniture with the help of professionals.

Get Rid Of Allergens and Bacteria

When dust and debris are allowed to work their way into upholstered furniture, they will start to irritate the people who sit on it and could even make them sick. The best way to make sure this does not happen is to hire a professional upholstery cleaning service.

When bacteria takes a hold in upholstery, it can start to make it smell bad and then you will never want to sit on it. Staying on a regular maintenance schedule, including professional cleaning, you will make sure that your upholstery stays comfortable and smells fresh for a long time.

Your fabric sofa is such a comfortable place to hang out and a beautiful piece of furniture that you want to take care of as best as you can. So many people feel intimidated by cleaning their fabric sofa that they never try it on their own. With our four simple steps you will be able to clean your fabric sofa and help it stay comfy, cozy and clean.

Upholstery cleaning can be a tricky endeavor that you may be better off leaving to the professionals though, so you should proceed with caution. The problem is that most upholstery has to stay on top of a cushion, which will trap a lot of water in it that could be difficult to remove.

Furniture cleaning can help to make your treasured sofa last longer and look better the whole time that you own it. You should definitely have a good cleaning routine for all of your upholstery. Upholstery cleaning services are the best way to maintain your furniture so that it will last as long as possible.

If you want to attempt furniture cleaning on your own, we have put together four simple steps to clean a fabric sofa.

  1. Read Instructions

This step seems so obvious and easy, but so many people just want to clean their sofa the way they imagine they should, but the manufacturer will give you instructions to clean your sofa because they want to make sure that you clean it the right way so that it will last longer. Cleaning a sofa the wrong way could damage it or even ruin it so that you will need to throw it away.

If you are unable to locate your sofa’s cleaning instructions, you can look for the tags that are located on the cushions or possibly on some hidden location like under the sofa. The tag will have the necessary recommendations for how to clean the sofa fabric.

Sometimes upholstery cleaning instructions will come in the form of a special code, which you can read like this :

  • W = can be cleaned using water
  • S = Do not use water, you should use a specialized upholstery cleaning solvent
  • WS = use water or solvent
  • X = Not moisture tolerant, vacuum clean only and call upholstery cleaning services

This code will be extremely helpful when you are cleaning your cloth sofa. Always follow them to make sure that your cleaning job does not ruin your furniture cleaning experience.

  1. Vacuum

You should almost always start cleaning upholstery by vacuuming. This will eliminate any loose dirt particles so that you will not end up actually rubbing them into the sofa when you are doing the rest of the cleaning.

To help your vacuum pick up even more dirt, you can first brush the upholstery with a natural bristle cleaning brush. This will loosen up some of the dried on particles and they may be able to come up simply by vacuuming. If you ever call a professional couch cleaning service you will notice the care that they take in brushing and vacuuming the couch first, as this is an important part of the cleaning process.

Vacuuming should also be part of your regular upholstery cleaning routine. Every week or so you need to be getting all loose dirt up so that your sofa will keep looking good and the dirt won’t make its way deep into the cushions, where they could become impossible to remove, even with  professional furniture cleaning services.

You also need to make sure that your vacuum is a powerful one and that you are using the couch cleaning attachment head. This will ensure that your sofa is getting the cleaning it needs.

  1. Wet or Dry Cleaning

Now that the upholstery surface is free of loose dirt, you can follow the instruction for the correct way to clean your sofa.

Wet cleaning is a method where you can use a water based cleaner on a sofa. Be careful not to get the cushions too wet though, try to only make the cushion covers wet. If water gets too far into a cushion, it can take a long time to dry and could even grow mold. Then you would be faced with needing a professional cleaner or replacement.

One of the best cleaning methods for a cloth sofa is a steam cleaner. You can rent or buy a steam cleaner to use yourself, but these at home machines are sometimes not powerful enough and they take some experience to become proficient. It can often save you time and effort to just hire a couch cleaning service to do a steam cleaning for you.

The steam cleaner really gets deep into the sofa, without getting it too wet. The steam kills any bacteria that may have made a home and it will loosen stuck on dirt and grime. Then the machine will suck all that loosened material up, leaving your sofa extra clean.

If you have a couch that requires solvent cleaning, you will have to buy a special solvent upholstery cleaner or at home dry cleaning solution. Read the instructions on the product you choose and use it on your sofa.

Do be careful with solvent cleaners, they can be harmful to your skin or can irritate your respiratory system. For solvent clean only couches, it may be best to leave it to the pros, as they have all the right safety equipment to handle the chemicals and use them the right way.

  1. Dry

Even if you do not use water to clean your fabric sofa, it will need to sit for a while after you clean it. Leave the cushions set on one edge, so that the seat section will be exposed to the air, and rotate the edges every couple hours until they are completely dried.

Do not sit on your sofa for at least the rest of the day and overnight. It is important that it is allowed to dry completely. If you have cleaned with a solvent-based cleaner, you may notice some odors from the upholstery, but they should dissipate after some hours. If odors persist too long, you may have used too much cleaner and you should call a professional.

Cleaning around the house is of course, one of the most important things you can do to ensure proper sanitation. Mopping floors, wiping the dusts off of counters, and keeping the windows very clean are all easy things to do. What’s not easy though is making sure that your couch and other furniture are clean. Upholstery cleaning is no laughing matter after all.

The main problem with couch and furniture cleaning is that you need to clean deeply. Cleaning deeply is more often than not impossible because you have only so little space to work with. The only way you can clean properly is by simply dismantling your couch which isn’t very easy mind you. People are always on the lookout to find the best couch and chair cleaning methods but not all of them are actually effective.

The good news is that some people have discovered methods which work surprisingly well. Having a clean couch not only makes your house cleaner, but it also makes it better smelling. Let’s not make this any longer. Here are a few upholstery cleaning methods that you definitely need to check out.

Cleaning The Couch First

Cleaning the couch takes a lot of time mind you. It’s not really ideal to have it deep cleaned especially if there are guests that are going to come by. Even an upholstery cleaning service won’t be able to have the couch cleaned in time before the guests arrive. It sometimes takes days before a couch dries out after cleaning. There are some quick hacks to make sure that your couch gets cleaned fast.

The easiest method is to use a dry brush. The pass-through your couch using a dry brush to loosen up any dirt, solid debris or even loose pieces of fabric. Make sure to brush in one stroke so that you don’t ruin the material of the couch. You don’t need to brush with force too. Just gently pass through the couch with the brush and this can help remove dirt easily.

Alternatively, you can also vacuum your couch on the lowest setting. Like dry brushing, this removes all traces of dirt from your couch. It’s even better to use vacuums with interchangeable nozzles. You’d want to use nozzles that are think enough to go into the crevices of the couch so that you can absorb even those dirt that are already deep within.

If you have extra cushions in your home, that would be much better as you can simply swap cushions when one is being cleaned or when one is dirty. Understandably, not everyone has the extra cushions though. For emergency purposes, you’d want to flip over your cushions instead to make sure that the dirty side stays hidden. It’s a cheap trick but it’s one that works very well.

Of course, these are just basic cleaning tips that you can do for emergency purposes. What if you want a deeper cleaning for your couch? Should you avail an upholstery cleaning service immediately? What if we tell you that there are ways you can clean your couch without having to call for the pros. Here’s how you can deep clean it.

Couch Deep Cleaning For Beginners

Deep cleaning a couch is an integral process which helps you remove the nasty odor eminatting from your furniture. This is the preferred method of course as it is more sanitary than simply brushing your couch. It is also a multi-step process. Overall, this can take you a few hours to do and a day or so to have the couch completely cleaned.

The first thing you’d want to do is check the quality of the couch’s fabric. For this deep cleaning method, you’re going to have to use a cleaning agent which could ruin the feel of some types of fabric. For instance, as baking soda is going to be a key ingredient, you should find and isolate an area, apply baking soda to it, and then check how the fabric reacts. Make sure that the test area is very small and hidden from plain sight.

With that out of the way, the next thing you should do is to brush or vacuum away all of the excess dirt, dust and debris away from the couch. You can do this for the first step. However, you have to brush away the excess baking soda from the couch anyway so might as well have it done in one go. Make sure that you go for the deep crevices too for a deeper clean.

Next, apply baking soda all over your couch. The best way to do this is to wear a glove and then rub it all over your couch. Make sure that not an inch stays safe from the baking soda. Baking soda is an excellent cleaning ingredient that can help do away with nasty odors and excess humidity. Once done, make sure to let it sit for at least 30 minutes. You can mix it with a dry carpet cleaner mix if you want to as well.

The next thing you’d want to do is vacuum the baking soda. If you don’t have a vacuum, you can simply brush away the baking soda out from the couch. Just make sure that you are doing it in an open area so that it’s easier to clean the baking soda that falls. It’s important that you completely clean the baking soda out of your couch.

Next up, you’d want to focus more on cleaning the solid stains on your couch. This is one of the toughest parts of the process. For this, you’d need to make a cleaning solution first. What you’d want  to do is mix ¾ cup of warm water, ¼ cup of vinegar and a tablespoon of dish soap of any scent. This mixture works well with fabric upholstery. If you have synthetic upholstery, mix one cup warm water, ½ cup vinegar, and ½ tablespoon of dish soap.

With the mixture made, you simply need to put it in a spray bottle so that you can easily spray it in the affected area. If the stain doesn’t go away after sitting with the solution, you can try wiping it down with a cloth once the solution is sprayed. Your couch can be very wet after this so make sure to dry it completely before you use it.

Call The Pros

Of course, there’s no better cleaning than the one that you’d get when calling the pros. If you don’t have the time and the skill to clean your upholstery, it’s best to have them do the work for your instead. They employ various methods to ensure that your couch is clean inside and out. While the service isn’t free, it’s definitely worth it.

There are various services you can avail from an upholstery cleaning service. For deep cleaning, they’ll not only get rid of the fine dust, they’ll also get rid of the nasty odor in your couch. Deep cleaning also means going deep with the pockets to ensure that there are no dirt that’s hiding from plain sight.

They also offer an upholstery steam cleaning service. In this method, they use steam to clean your couch inside and out. It’s a complicated process that makes use of equipment you don’t normally find at home. If your couch can’t handle steam, then you can try upholstery dry cleaning services instead which is far more efficient than just brushing your couch.

Upholstery cleaning services usually last for an entire day which is not bad as compared to the time you’ll spend when doing your own upholstery cleaning. There are many reasons why you should consider calling the pros for help and their speed at doing the job is only the surface of it.

Your couch gets bacteria and other unwanted contaminants the longer it remains cleaned. These are caused by excess moisture from sweat and even the humidity in the air. When the pros are doing the job for your, they don’t only clean the surface, they also make sure that the insides are free from these harmful contaminants as well.

Another benefit to them is that they are very efficient when it comes to cleaning. What would take you an entire day to do will only last a few hours for them. If you don’t have the time to clean, then their service is something that you’d want to avail on your end.

Last but not the least, these cleaners have access to tools that you don’t normally have at home. These tools provide a deeper clean than anything else.

An upholstery cleaning service does wonders for your furniture. It’s best availed when you have multiple couches or fabric chairs in your home so that you get more bang for your buck. If you want to ensure that your family is safe from bacteria, viruses, and other contaminants, it’s best to ensure that your couch is deeply cleaned at all times.

The upholstered furniture is one of the most significant investments for every house owner. With every time and effort financed to have it, taking care of it is one of our commitments and priorities. One way to do it is to engage our upholstery items on regular UPHOLSTERY CLEANING SERVICE. It offers different cleaning amenities like UPHOLSTERY STEAM CLEANING that uses a system to give a fresher look to the upholsteries. Some of these services provide UPHOLSTERY DRY CLEANING, a process that uses a mixture of hot water and cleaning solution and injects in the furniture before suctioning it out. Meanwhile, some offer maintenance to specific upholstery like UPHOLSTERY SOFA CLEANING, which provides better cleaning.

Importance of Upholstery Cleaning

Air quality

An unclean-used upholstery can cause the release of dirt, bacteria, and allergens that negatively affect the air quality of our homes. Moreover, prolonged exposure of these items to different factors like smoke, and food aroma can also cause unwanted odors that can affect the overall appearance of our homes. With regular cleaning of these items, it not only helps the upholstery smell fresher, but it can also remove the unwanted allergens, leading to better air quality in the comfort of our homes.

Improved health of the family members

Besides the adverse effects of unclean air, that dirt and allergens present even in the upholstery can cause allergies and irritability to every household member. So, a well-maintained upholstery can help reduce the risk of sickness in our homes.

Longer life of the furniture

Unfortunately, the thinning, discoloration, and other unpresentable looks in the upholstery are another indication of an unclean and not maintained upholstery. With regular cleaning, it also helps remove the unwanted dust and dirt that can affect the sturdiness of our upholstery items, giving it a longer life span.

Mistakes to Avoid in Cleaning your Upholstery

Despite the presence of professional upholstery cleaners around, sometimes we want to do things our way. Unfortunately, these results in committing mistakes in cleaning our upholstery. Here are some mistakes we tend to make in cleaning our sofas and mattresses:

Failure to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines

Once we buy an upholstery item, we tend to neglect the reminders and procedures the sales attendant informs us about the item’s maintenance and cleaning guidelines. Worse, we are using our ways and products to clean these things, which can affect durability and, worse, damage the upholstery.

Failure to use the appropriate products in cleaning and maintenance.

Most of us are not familiar with the right products in handling particular issues in our upholstery items. Instead, we are using the available cleaning products we have without ensuring if it is the right tool to clean the upholstery. This action causes not only harm to your family members, but also it is disastrous and can result in irreparable damages in the upholstery.

Failure to do the test patch before cleaning.

One essential way of cleaning our upholstery is to check if the products we are going to use are valid and will not damage the item. This checking includes making a test patch or applying the cleaning product to a smaller section of the upholstery. Despite its importance before the cleaning, this action is also one of the things that we neglect, which can affect the appearance of the upholstery item.

Usage of wrong and ineffective cleaning techniques.

Upholstery items are very challenging to clean and maintain. That is why it is essential to prepare everything before the cleaning process. Besides the wrong cleaning products, we also tend to do the wrong ways and techniques in upholstery cleaning. No matter how appropriate the cleaning product we use, it is still ineffective and causes more trouble if we fail to use it the right way.

Soaking the upholstery in water.

Assuming that the water is the answer to our upholstery problem is another common mistake when it comes to cleaning. It will not just affect the quality of the upholstery, but worse, too much exposure on the water can cause the item not to dry, which leads to more harmful bacteria and molds inside quickly.

How to Clean the Upholstery Items

With some of the mistakes mentioned when it comes to cleaning our upholstery, the following are some of the ways to save our hard-earned house items from damages and to prevent us from making those mistakes.

Never neglect the owner’s manual.

Part of our responsibility as upholstery owners is to read the manual and information pamphlet religiously. The manual is not present as a display to the purchased upholstery item. Instead, it aims to provide a better understanding of the requirements in maintaining the thing in good condition and avoiding unnecessary damages.

Avoid scrubbing the upholstery.

Scrubbing the upholstered item will never solve an issue to these things, but it can only cause worse results. Instead of scrubbing, use absorbent cloths in blotting some of the stains to absorb it quickly. Besides reducing the chance that the liquid stain can get rubbed, it will also help those stains incorporate beneath the upholstery item.

Consider working the stains using steam clean.

Steam cleaners can be useful, especially in the embedded stains in the upholstery. If you have a steam mop, this can be a great tool in cleaning the upholstery, especially if it features a detailed cleaning arrangement. Moreover, always use a low-heat setting in steam cleaning these items, and it is also crucial to do a test in an unremarkable spot to make sure that the fabric will not be affected by the heat’s adverse reaction. If the material is silk, do not consider using any steam cleaning tool.

Never use plain water in cleaning microfiber fabrics.

Water is not a solution in dealing with stains from microfiber upholstery. Instead, use rubbing alcohol to clean that fabric. Spray some of it on the stained area, then use a clean and dry cloth to lift the stain as it starts to loosen up.
